One of the questions we are often asked at Prainha is whether to book a Sea-Facing Cottage or a Sea View Room.
At first glance, the difference may seem to be about the view. In reality, both categories look towards our pool and the sea beyond it. What changes is the style of the accommodation, the amount of space, the position within the resort and the way each room connects with its surroundings.
Our Sea-Facing Cottages are larger, standalone and shaped by Prainha’s distinctive Goan-Portuguese character. Our Sea View Rooms are more contemporary, slightly more compact and located within the main building.
For guests comparing beach cottages in Goa with sea view rooms in Goa, these are the details that make the decision useful.
The most obvious difference is structure. Our cottages are individual 387 sq ft stays set apart from the main building, while the Sea View Rooms measure 321 sq ft and form part of the main resort block.
The character of the interiors differs as well. The cottages draw more strongly from Prainha’s Goan-Portuguese identity, with traditional influences and antique-style furnishings. The Sea View Rooms take a cleaner, more contemporary approach.
Both categories enjoy views towards the pool and sea. The cottages generally have a more direct, front-facing position, while the Sea View Rooms look towards both from a more side-facing angle.
Outdoor spaces are not identical across every room. Some balconies and terraces are more generous, while others are more compact. A small number of cottages open onto larger landscaped outdoor areas, and some Sea View Rooms also have a little additional landscaped space adjoining the balcony. Because these configurations vary, we prefer to treat them as room-specific features rather than make one standard promise for an entire category.
Our Sea-Facing Cottages measure 387 sq ft and are designed as standalone stays rather than rooms within the main building. They are available with king or double-bed configurations and carry more of Prainha’s traditional Goan-Portuguese character through their interiors and furnishings.
Our cottages in Dona Paula offer a more independent way to experience the resort, while still keeping the pool, gardens and coastline close at hand. The standalone format also gives this category a different sense of place within Prainha.
Some cottages interconnect, allowing guests to book adjoining accommodation while retaining separate rooms. This can be particularly useful when a travelling party wants to stay close together without sharing the same room.
Balcony and terrace layouts differ between individual cottages. Around five have larger landscaped outdoor areas adjoining them, while others have more compact balconies. Their positioning, however, generally gives them the more direct outlook towards the pool and sea.
Our Sea View Rooms are 321 sq ft and located within the main building. They are available with king or twin-bed configurations and have a more contemporary design language than the cottages.
Our sea view rooms in Goa look towards both the pool and the sea, although the perspective is generally more side-facing than from the cottages. The result is still a distinctly coastal setting, but with a different relationship to the resort landscape.
Balcony layouts vary between individual rooms. Some include a little landscaped outdoor space beyond the balcony, while others have a more conventional balcony configuration. If a particular balcony style or amount of outdoor space is important to you, our team can guide you on the available options when you book.

The choice comes down to the differences that will actually matter during your stay.
Choose a Sea-Facing Cottage if you value the standalone format, the additional 66 sq ft of space and Prainha’s more traditional Goan-Portuguese character. The interconnecting cottage option may also be relevant when adjoining accommodation is required.
Choose a Sea View Room if you prefer a more contemporary interior, are comfortable with a slightly smaller room and would rather stay within the main building.
Neither category is designed to be the automatic upgrade over the other. They are simply two different ways of staying at Prainha, within the same coastal setting.
Whichever accommodation you choose, the wider Prainha experience remains the same.
Our Dona Paula setting brings together palms, red laterite, landscaped gardens, the swimming pool and the coastline in a resort that has always drawn much of its character from its surroundings. Mornings can begin with breakfast at Beachcomber before the day moves towards the pool, the waterfront or somewhere beyond the resort.
Panjim is around 7 km away for guests who want to explore Fontainhas, the city’s heritage quarter, cafés and riverside areas. The Mandovi also opens up other possibilities, including Betim, Divar Island and the Reis Magos side of the river.
Just as importantly, a stay at Prainha does not need to be built around constant sightseeing. You can head out for part of the day and return with time left for the gardens, pool and sea.
The room you choose shapes how you stay within Prainha. The setting around it is what brings the rest of the experience together.

“Prainha is a real beauty spot. Not swish or fancy, but stunning in its old-world charm, greenery and rustic feel. The rooms are spacious with old-style furniture, and cleaned daily by an efficient team. The pool is kept clean, with sunbeds and towels provided, and the food is fresh and delicious. Beach access to a private bay is the icing on the cake. But the best thing about Prainha is the staff, always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay just right. This is our go-to for a full relaxation holiday. Thank you, Esther and Chris!”
